Biography of Place, Narrative Nonfiction, Lyric Essay, Literary Criticism and Journalism

My writing has been published in America Magazine, Bellevue Literary Review, Killing the Buddha, Narratively, The Rumpus, Words Without Borders, and the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, where I am a contributing editor.  

My Bellevue Literary Review essay "A Figment of Your Imagination" was selected for the Notables list in Best American Essays 2011I write biographies of place, lyric essays, narrative nonfiction and reportage. My subjects and themes include interpretations of cultural inheritance, collective memory, concepts of home, neuroscience, exile and illness, the politics of knowledge, and the intersection of religious and ethnic identities.

I also write reviews of forthcoming books, critiquing biography, history, memoir, social science, political science and literary fiction. My reviews have appeared in Booklist, Kirkus, and Publishers Weekly.
